Exhibition 'Birds of Our Region'
About exhibition
Soviet young naturalists, under the patronage of the famous Nikolai Ivanovich Dergunov, placed nest boxes in the forestry under their jurisdiction to help the birds. This initiative was warmly supported by school teachers, and by 1927 the movement to help birds had spread to all educational institutions in our country. The Great Patriotic War temporarily halted care for birds, but after the victory the good tradition resumed in schools. Events aimed at helping birds began to be held during spring holidays. During the difficult season for birds, schoolchildren hung feeders on trees and later tended their creations, filling them with grains and pieces of bread. In modern Russia the tradition of helping birds has extended beyond schools: since 1994 the International Bird Day has been held annually, aiming to draw public attention to the problems facing birds. Visitors will be able to see bright and colorful portraits of birds and hear their calls — the feathered inhabitants of the central part of Russia. The author of the photo exhibition is Alexander Sergeyevich Chubutkin. The exhibition is held on a permanent basis. Phone for advance booking: +7 (48147) 4-19-36.
