About exhibition
Maria Fofanova is an artist whose works combine a painter's observational eye, the subtlety of graphic art, and the sensuousness of a ceramicist. She lives and works in Moscow, has participated in numerous exhibitions, and her works are held in private collections and museum holdings. She graduated from the Moscow Higher School of Art and Industry (formerly Stroganov), where she studied ceramics under the guidance of the renowned master ceramic artist E.S. Lukinova. She took her first steps in art at Children's Art School No. 1 (Moscow) with instructor V.A. Geraskevich. Maria Fofanova strives to convey a sense of air and light in her works. The whiteness of the faience becomes the equivalent of the sky — a 'void shining from within.' The landscape in her works is not a background but an independent living space, filled with breath and the presence of a person. The gallery exhibition displays about forty works by the artist, executed in various techniques. Maria Fofanova is showing her graphic works for the first time, thus inviting viewers into the artist's 'kitchen' to understand the process of creating a work from concept to realization.
