Exhibition "Hello, John!"
About exhibition
In the creative history of Vladivostok, John Kudryavtsev has always held a special place. His recognizable artistic language and vivid personal charisma long ago made him a landmark of Vladivostok. The exhibition is dedicated to the artist’s 70th birthday and includes works from the collections of the Primorsky State Art Gallery and from private collections. The display features more than 30 works — paintings and graphic art. John Kudryavtsev’s graphic works are images that originated in the artist’s consciousness and materials he personally prepared in his studio before being realized on paper. They are a graphic depiction, distinctive in technique and approach, of previously unseen stellar archipelagos, seas, islands, forests, animals and birds inhabiting a world created by the artist’s poetic intuition, imagination and skill. His professional arsenal includes many inventions — techniques such as his own ink, "negrav" (an original technique), etching on cardboard, black chalk and white lacquer, and raw graphite. John’s graphics are born from delicate patterns, starry mist, feelings and memories. The metaphors are revealed most fully and the characters are shown, whether a mythical star deer, a bird, or a fantastic creature.
