Exhibition “The Nature of the Khvalynsk Region: Collections of Mikhail Radishchev”

About exhibition

The core of the exhibition is the ornithological collection of M. A. Radishchev (about 250 specimens). Most of it consists of representatives of the fauna of Khvalynsk Uyezd at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries. The exhibits are in excellent condition, despite being over 100 years old. The Nature Department’s exhibition is arranged in diorama style. The backgrounds for the animal life scenes were painted by the well-known artist-designer Viktor Illarionovich Sheptunov. The ancient history of the region is reflected in a rich collection of skeletal remains. You will see a mammoth skeleton, the skulls of a woolly rhinoceros and a bison, a camel and a giant deer. The Nature Department also hosts temporary thematic exhibitions.
