Exhibition 'Nature of the Don Region'
About exhibition
The hall displays taxidermy specimens representing the three main ecosystems of Rostov Oblast: wetlands, steppes and bodies of water — mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Among the animals presented as characteristic inhabitants of the steppes are the following species: mammals – the pale (steppe) polecat, the little and the spotted ground squirrels, the European souslik, the European (brown) hare, and the saiga; birds – the quail, the Demoiselle crane, the great bustard, the little bustard, the steppe 'tirkuška' (local name), the steppe eagle, the steppe lark; reptiles – the sand (agile) lizard, the yellow-bellied snake, the steppe viper; insects – the steppe cricket, the steppe click beetle, the grain, steppe and sowing 'kuzki' (local orthopterans), the Dagestan pollen beetle, the steppe and broad-breasted skippers, the black sugar-beet weevil, and many others.
