Exhibition "Towel. A Lifelong Story"
About exhibition
The towel in traditional culture is inextricably linked to key moments of human life: birth, baptism, marriage and death. This profound meaning underlies the architectural and artistic concept of the exhibition, which will be revealed through the exhibition’s content and the visual design of the space. The exhibition design echoes a towel. The display cases contain 80 ornamented items from the textile collection of the Arkhangelsk Regional Museum of Local Lore — the oldest collection in the region. They reflect the variety of functions, motifs and traditional techniques used to decorate towels in the Arkhangelsk, Vologda and Olonets governorates of the 19th–20th centuries. The exhibition’s contemporary voice is provided by works by the artist Maria Ivanova from Saint Petersburg, as well as by ancient folklore and contemporary works in the folk genre.
