Exhibition 'You Can Tell Who's Coming by Their Clothes'
About exhibition
The exhibition introduces visitors to the history and culture of the distinctive Setu people. The Setu (Seto) are a small Finno-Ugric ethnic group who lived in the Pechorsky District of the Pskov Region. The museum displays Setu jewelry — pendants shaped like bells and coins, ornaments made of large hollow beads, necklaces with leaf-shaped pendants, bracelets and earrings — as well as items of clothing of this small Finno-Ugric people. The highlight of the exhibition is a Setu fashionista's silver headdress, with a total weight reaching five to six kilograms. Silver jewelry among this people was regarded as a talisman, and the ringing of the silver produced with every movement, according to legend, drives away evil spirits.
