Exhibition "Victory Square"
About exhibition
In 2025 the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, declared the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland. This decision was made to preserve historical memory and to mark the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. As part of the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland events, the museum will host the exhibition "Victory Square." The event is timed to the 50th anniversary of the opening of the 30th Anniversary of Victory Square — the main military-memorial site of the Ulyanovsk Region. The exhibition will present rare photographs documenting the preparation and erection of the monuments, beginning from the moment their foundations were laid. These images will allow visitors to trace the square’s evolution over the past half-century — from the initial design stages to its contemporary appearance. Special attention will be paid to the preliminary designs of the Stele of Glory. Among the works on display will be projects similar to the present monument, as well as those notable for their originality that remained unimplemented. In addition to photographs and documents from the collection of the I. Goncharov Ulyanovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, the exhibition will feature materials from the holdings of a partner institution — the State Archive of Contemporary History of the Ulyanovsk Region — covering the competition for the square’s construction, as well as unique personal exhibits: photographs, documents, and belongings of architect Serafim Titov and sculptor Rafik Airapetyan, along with other authors who played an active role in creating the modern appearance of the 30th Anniversary of Victory Square. By appointment by phone: +7 (8422) 27-29-37.
