Exhibition "Pyotr Chaplygin. The Path to Truth"

About exhibition

The exhibition is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the birth of Pyotr Ivanovich Chaplygin (1940–2022) — People's Artist of the Russian Federation, a Volgograd ceramist, sculptor, and monumental artist. Residents of Volgograd know him as the creator of the mosaic-adorned fountain near the Children and Youth Center, the mosaic panel in the underpass on Komsomolskaya Street, and other works. His studio became one of Volgograd’s notable landmarks. The exhibition features more than 70 works of sculpture, painting, and graphic art, as well as rare photographs from the artist’s archive. To highlight the breadth of the master’s search and the distinctive character of his art, the show includes works long unseen by the public, early sculptural compositions created in the 1970s shortly after Chaplygin’s arrival in Volgograd following his graduation from the Stroganov School, as well as works from the final years of his life, sketches of monumental works, and unrealized projects. The main themes of Pyotr Chaplygin’s work are the memory of the war, the beauty of the human figure, and the heritage of classical art. The exhibition also presents the ceramist-artist’s "creative workshop," his materials and tools. For information call: +7 (8442) 38-24-44.
