The history of the museum dates back to the summer of 1918. Today its collection includes more than 100,000 items: a unique collection of wooden sculpture, treasures from monastery treasuries, and objects of noble household life. "Pereyaslavl Novy" – presents materials recovered in recent years by excavations of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the territory of the town. The exhibition is based on materials from the funds of the Pereslavl Museum-Reserve and is devoted to the everyday life and culture of the fortress town of Pereyaslavl in the 12th–17th centuries. "Silver Treasury" – the core of the collection consists of examples of liturgical and ornamental embroidery and jewelry art of the 16th–19th centuries from the treasuries of destroyed Pereslavl churches and monasteries. "A Wreath to the Estates" – presents artistic valuables and household items from ruined noble estates of the Pereslavl uyezd: family portraits, furniture, porcelain, clocks, books in beautiful leather bindings, oil paintings in heavy frames, and family heirlooms. "Wooden Sculpture and Carving of the 16th–19th Centuries" – features complete sculptural compositions and fragments of lost iconostases of the 17th–19th centuries from the churches of Pereslavl and the Pereslavl district. "Old Russian Painting of the 15th–18th Centuries" – presents icon paintings of the 15th–18th centuries that museum staff removed in the 1920s from closed and ruined monasteries and churches of Pereslavl and the Pereslavl district. Preserved for posterity through the efforts of several generations of art historians, historians and restorers, they now form the pride of the museum's collection.
