Exhibition 'Five Centuries of Russian Art'
About exhibition
'Five Centuries of Russian Art' is the first exhibition mounted at the Tretyakov Gallery's branch in Kaliningrad. An unprecedented-in-scale project reproduces the museum's permanent displays at its Moscow venues on Lavrushinsky Lane and Krymsky Val — only in a condensed form. More than 300 paintings and sculptures were carefully selected and brought to Kaliningrad, located hundreds of kilometers from the capital, to introduce its residents and visitors to the unique collection of Russia's largest museum of national art. The exhibition presents a wide panorama arranged in historical-chronological sequence from the 16th century through the end of the 20th century. Several 21st-century works indicate the most prominent vectors of future artistic development. Among the notable names are Vladimir Borovikovsky, Vasily Tropinin, Ilya Repin, Valentin Serov, Arkhip Kuindzhi, Wassily Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich, Vera Mukhina, Anna Golubkina, and others. The extensive display is organized in historical-chronological order with emphasis on different stylistic movements and recurring lines of development. Many of the works included in the exhibition are shown in the halls of the Tretyakov Gallery's permanent exhibition in Moscow; some of them were acquired by the museum's founder.
