Exhibition "Panticapaeum. From Past to Future"

About exhibition

The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in 2025 celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Bosporan Archaeological Expedition, one of the country's most important, and presents at its Volgo-Vyatka branch the exhibition "Panticapaeum. From Past to Future." The exhibition will feature the latest discoveries and scientific hypotheses of the Pushkin Museum's Bosporan Expedition under the leadership of Vladimir Petrovich Tolstikov. For the first time, archival materials from the Pushkin Museum's collections documenting the history of research on Mount Mithridat will be shown. The main sections of the exhibition will present the history of ancient Panticapaeum, its inhabitants and the Bosporan Kingdom, as well as extremely rare objects, some of which have never been displayed to the public: the torso of a statue of Heracles (2nd century BCE) and fragments of a funerary relief (5th century BCE) from the collection of the State Hermitage Museum; the head of a goddess from the main building of the Basileia of the Spartocids (second half of the 4th century BCE) from the collection of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts; and fragments of painted vessels from the East Crimea Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve.
