Exhibition 'Memory of Sorrow Is Stern, Memory of Glory Lives'
About exhibition
The exhibition covers a wide range of topics: from military operations in the sectors of the Volkhov and Northwestern Fronts to the genocide of the Soviet people and the destruction of cultural heritage in territories occupied by Wehrmacht forces. It includes more than 300 museum items which, along with archival documents, are authentic witnesses to the events. They not only highlight and reveal the character of the era but also tell of the tragic and heroic events of the Great Patriotic War. For the first time, memorial complexes of participants in the military actions near Novgorod - A. S. Dobrov and L. N. Tumanov - will be presented. A significant part of the exhibition is multimedia content. In the section dedicated to the evacuation of the civilian population and cultural valuables from Novgorod, the interior of an evacuation train carriage has been recreated, where the window is a multimedia screen broadcasting wartime newsreel footage showing Novgorod under Wehrmacht occupation. Archival footage of the city after liberation and of the restoration of the 'Millennium of Russia' monument will also be shown. The project was implemented with the support of the 'History of the Fatherland' Foundation.
