Exhibition 'Open Maritime Halls. Pacific Time'
About exhibition
At the city museum there is an exhibition 'Open Maritime Halls. Pacific Time' that tells the story of the rhythm of Vladivostok in which several generations have lived, live and will live. Time for people who live by the sea, depend on it, and work at sea is measured in a special way — the year is divided not into the usual seasonal cycles but into 'work' periods associated with preparing for a voyage, separation, waiting, and reunion. This cyclicality is akin to the tides and is a manifestation of the city's 'breathing' (or 'heartbeat'). Many families are permanently in this rhythm, and this compulsory rule of life by the sea is the exhibition's main exhibit. Sailors and their family members helped prepare the exhibition; 27 interviews were recorded. For the project, residents of Vladivostok donated more than 100 items to the museum: documents, photographs, and personal belongings. The project's partner — the museum of the G. I. Nevelskoy State Maritime University — also provided exhibits.
