About exhibition

Individual visits to the Natural Department of the Volsk Local History Museum involve self-guided viewing of the exhibition without tour services. Visitors will learn about the physiogeographic conditions of the local area, its subsoil and geological past, and the characteristics of living natural complexes. The display cases and dioramas reveal the current state of the local forest-steppe, including the plant and animal life of the Volga floodplain, local forests and steppe areas. Emphasis is placed on Red Book–listed species of the Saratov Region and Russia. Among the particularly unique exhibits are a collection of tropical butterflies and a fragment of the "Saratov" meteorite, which fell in 1918.
