The history of the railway troops is inextricably linked with the history of the Russian state, its Armed Forces, and railway transport. Over the years military railway personnel have made and continue to make a significant contribution to strengthening the country's defense and developing its transport infrastructure. The role of the military railway personnel in the success of the battles of the Great Patriotic War is invaluable. In the post-war period, a major milestone in the history of the railway troops was their participation in the construction of the BAM (Baikal–Amur Mainline). Today military railway personnel are back on the BAM — they are working on the modernization of the Baikal–Amur Mainline. The virtual exhibition features photographs and documents from the 1970s and 1980s that illustrate the important role of the railway troops in the country's economic development. The working lives of railway servicemen in the present day are also depicted. For the display the exhibition used the poster collection 'Steel Roads to Victory', whose main slogan was taken as the exhibition's title.
