Exhibition 'From Tsar to President'
About exhibition
The Simbirsk–Ulyanovsk region has a rich history associated with visits by reigning monarchs, statesmen and political figures from various countries. Before 1917, Simbirsk was visited by Peter I, Catherine II, Alexander I, Nicholas I, Alexander II and Alexander III. Interest in the city grew in connection with the preparation for and celebration of the 100th anniversary of V. I. Lenin's birth. In the jubilee year 1970 and in subsequent years, many state and political figures of the USSR and the Russian Federation visited Ulyanovsk and the 'Lenin Memorial': L. I. Brezhnev, A. N. Kosygin, M. A. Suslov, B. N. Yeltsin, D. A. Medvedev, V. V. Putin, as well as leaders of foreign states (Urho Kaleva Kekkonen (Finland), Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal (Mongolia), Erich Honecker (GDR), Gustav Husak (Czechoslovakia), François Mitterrand (France), Todor Zhivkov (Bulgaria), etc.). The exhibition acquaints visitors with the history of the city as part of Russian and world history, addresses the changing appearance of the city, and highlights the links between historical monuments and notable personalities.
