Exhibition "Sakhalin Island: The Open Finale"
About exhibition
The exhibition brings to life the great book about the Sakhalin penal colony in theatrical, museum and academic contexts. Visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere in which A. P. Chekhov created his works. The exhibition features items from the museum's own collections. Eighty percent of them are authentic — from a piano to editions of 19th-century classics. Of particular value are the memorial gifts of Valentina Chekhova, the widow of the writer's nephew, who was an artist, as was his son. The graphic works of Sergey Mikhailovich and Sergey Sergeevich were created inspired by the Sakhalin journey following Chekhov's footsteps and are now part of the interior. An inkwell and a photo album recall the writer from Chekhov's circle, Lidia Avilova, and an antique Japanese brick was found when laying the foundation of the museum's new building.
