Exhibition 'About Samovars and More...'
About exhibition
In our museum there is a unique collection of samovars. These items were donated to the museum for permanent display by residents of the town of Demidov and the Demidov district at different times. Our story will tell the history of this interesting object. Tea-drinking was a foundation of Russian domestic life. Peasants, townspeople, merchants, nobles — all drank from the samovar. By tradition, the host family's eldest daughters served tea to guests, and this was where they could notice future suitors and attract them and their relatives. The samovar was an essential part of the dowry of a bride from a well-to-do family. At weddings, grooms were given a test: if he could carry a two-bucket samovar across the whole main room with outstretched arms, he would be accepted into the family with honor. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to see a wide variety of samovars and to compare firsthand the similarities and differences of this interesting exhibit.
