Exhibition "Nikolai Plastov. Book Illustration"
About exhibition
An exhibition of works by Honored Artist of the RSFSR, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, illustrator and master of genre scenes, landscapes and portraits Nikolai Arkadyevich Plastov (1930–2000). The son of the renowned artist Arkady Plastov largely inherited the eminent painter’s outlook on the world and his techniques in handling color and form. The illustrations on display date from the turn of the 1950s–1960s — the period when the master’s independent creative method was taking shape. Sunlit meadows, lush blooming greenery, the glow of red tones and the radiant faces of people inhabiting the idyllic landscape undoubtedly recall Arkady Plastov’s famous canvases. Yet the familiar visual language here transforms into something more complex and refined, and the subjects become more intimate in scale. The miniature landscapes created for the books "Ivan-da-Marya", "Zolotaya" and "Sinee Oblachko" are especially precious. The virtuosity of execution makes these illustrations unique works of art.
