Exhibition 'Nadezhda Lamanova: The Queen of Theatrical Costume'
About exhibition
The first Russian couturier, supplier to Her Imperial Majesty's Court, the queen of theatrical costume — all these official and unofficial titles belong to Nadezhda Lamanova, one of the most famous women couturiers of the 20th century. Before the Revolution she created luxurious garments for noble clients, and after the events of 1917 she became the founder of the new Soviet fashion. The designer created costumes not only for everyday life but also for the stage. For the first time in Saratov, 60 items from the collection of the Moscow Art Theatre Museum (MKhAT) will be presented. These include costumes made under Lamanova's direction for the most famous productions of the Moscow Art Theatre ("Anna Karenina", "Othello", "The School for Scandal", "The Mad Day, or The Marriage of Figaro"), stage design models, sketches by Alexander Golovin, Vladimir Dmitriev and other celebrated masters, as well as photographs of iconic actors and film posters. They are complemented by fashionable accessories, porcelain pieces, and graphic and pictorial works from the Radishchev Museum collection.
