Exhibition 'In the Native Land: Homeland, History, Music'
About exhibition
The Russian National Museum of Music presents the exhibition 'In the Native Land: Homeland, History, Music', devoted to iconic musical works by domestic composers whose themes are based on significant events in Russian history. The exhibition's chronology spans from the 10th to the 20th century: from the reign of Prince Vladimir to the events of the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945). On display are large-scale musical works — the operas Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin, A Life for the Tsar by Mikhail Glinka, Khovanshchina and Boris Godunov by Modest Mussorgsky, as well as War and Peace, The Story of a Real Man, and the cantata Alexander Nevsky by Sergei Prokofiev. A special section of the exhibition tells the story of Prince Vladimir as reflected in the eponymous ethno-opera by composer and producer Igor Matvienko. Among the items exhibited are stage costumes, set sketches, musical manuscripts and rare editions, examples of decorative and applied arts, musical instruments, and even bullets from the Borodino Field.
