Exhibition "Bicycling into Space"
About exhibition
The exhibition project is dedicated to the history of cycling and explores its importance for Samara, past and present. Visitors can learn about the role of the bicycle in the development of society and see unique models from the Polytechnic Museum collection: a Draisienne (running machine) without pedals by K. Drais dated 1817, the legendary 1886 "bone-shaker" by Michaux, a "spider" bicycle with a large front wheel, a tandem, track racing bicycles and other examples from the 19th–20th centuries. In addition to bicycles, late-19th-century items essential for every cycling enthusiast are on display — race numbers, lamps and wrenches. The exhibition is supplemented by archival documents and photographs.
