The exhibition dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the opening of Okha Children's School of Arts No. 1 has opened at the museum. The school's history is remarkable: it all began with the opening of a piano club in the oilmen's town of Okha in northern Sakhalin under the 'Dalneft' association. It was a harsh wartime period — 1944. There were many people who wanted to study, and in 1950 a decision was made to open a music school in northern Sakhalin. Classes were held in the former Japanese consulate building, which was not adapted for teaching. In 1971 a new building was constructed specifically for the city's first music school according to a special Leningrad design. Today the school faithfully preserves the traditions of classical musical education and carries out extensive work promoting the performing arts. Currently more than a hundred children study here in the following specialties: 'piano', 'violin', 'cello', 'domra', 'bayan', 'balalaika', 'guitar', 'choral singing'. Okha Children's School of Arts No. 1 is proud of its talented students, the best of whom become laureates and diploma winners at many regional and international competitions and festivals. The exhibition features unique archival photographs of the school's teachers and students and items related to the school's creative life.
