Exhibition "Museum of the Russian Matryoshka"
About exhibition
Sergiev Posad can historically claim the title of the birthplace of the matryoshka, since mass production began here very early and a recognizable style emerged. The Russian matryoshka presented at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris captivated contemporaries with the perfection of its form. The matryoshka embodied aspects of national consciousness and folk notions of beauty and harmony. The museum's permanent exhibition introduces the history of the matryoshka's origin and stages of its development, the characteristic ornamental and decorative features of matryoshka dolls from traditional centers (the Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Vyatka regions), as well as contemporary artist-made matryoshkas.
