The museum's holdings total approximately 7,000 items. The exhibition displays numerous awards, trophies, medals, and rare pieces of equipment and gear used by celebrated athletes. A separate thematic section of the museum is devoted to Olympic champions: Alexander Tikhonov, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, Alexander Karelin, Yevgeny Podgorny, Viktor Markin, and many others. The museum also has a rich collection of flags from Soviet sports societies: "Urozhay", "Dynamo", "Zenit", "Trudovye Rezervy", "Burevestnik". Among the museum's recent acquisitions are items related to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
