The museum's permanent exhibition clearly and vividly demonstrates the life, everyday customs and traditional rituals of the Mordvins, as well as the skills, taste and inventiveness of folk craftsmen who created outstanding examples of popular and amateur artistic creativity. The exhibition presents the Mordvins' traditional rites and festivals, which are an integral part of their cultural heritage. The themed halls are dedicated to the distinctiveness of seasonal rites, elements of wedding ritual, peasant daily life and occupations, and the world of Mordovian children. You will find the following displays: «Customs and Rites of the Mordvins», devoted to the calendar rites observed annually and to rites associated with the major events in a person's life; «The World of the Mordovian Woman», occupying three halls and allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the everyday life and concerns of Mordovian women and to see the beauty and uniqueness of festive national costume; «The World of Mordovian Children», featuring items related to the birth and upbringing of children; and «Male Occupations and Crafts», showing objects associated with carpentry and joinery used in building and outfitting a peasant home.
