A photo exhibition dedicated to the seventieth birthday of People's Artist of Russia, artistic director and general director of the Mariinsky Theatre — Valery Gergiev. The exhibition offers an insight into the professional and public activities of this outstanding contemporary conductor. The photographs capture meetings with prominent political figures — Vladimir Putin, Tony Blair, Alexander Dzasokhov — and with opera stars — Elena Obraztsova, Plácido Domingo, Montserrat Caballé, Gidon Kremer, Olga Borodina, Yuri Bashmet, Denis Matsuev. The shots also include moments of conducting. Valery Gergiev's artistry is in demand worldwide. The maestro is a foremost representative of the St. Petersburg conducting school. Under his leadership the Mariinsky Theatre has been transformed into a large-scale theatre and concert complex unparalleled in the world. Valery Gergiev is the founder and head of prestigious festivals, including "Stars of the White Nights" and the Moscow Easter Festival. The conductor's musical and public activities have been honored with three State Prizes of the Russian Federation, the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation and the title Hero of Labour of the Russian Federation.
