The Artemovskie meadows are a valuable natural site in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, one of the last remaining areas of the natural Volga floodplain. Their unique location close to Nizhny Novgorod and their mosaic-like nature make a major contribution to the region's biodiversity, help maintain the ecological purity of the Volga, and participate in forming the green framework of a large industrial city of over a million residents. More than 60 rare bird species listed in the Red Data Book of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and over 20 species included in the Red Data Book of Russia have been recorded on the meadows. The nature of the Artemovskie meadows is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for art and creativity. An important chapter of the large-scale project "Artemovskie Meadows: Sunrises and Sunsets" is a series of unusual plein-air artist workshops, whose aim is not only to draw viewers' attention to the beauties of this unique natural landscape but also to create a kind of pictorial chronicle that tells the story of the life of this jewel of the Volga region in Nizhny Novgorod. The plein air was led by the well-known Nizhny Novgorod artist and master of watercolor Ivan Nikolaevich Vorozheykin. A creative group of enthusiastic artists traveled to hard-to-reach corners of the Artemovskie meadows according to the project's strict schedule. Aiming to create an artistic account of this unique natural complex, the artists captured a variety of states of the surrounding world. Among the participants were professional painters and graphic artists working in a wide range of techniques: oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, pastel, tempera, pencil, charcoal… The diversity of the artists' preferences made it possible to produce a multifaceted picture of the plein air's results. The paintings of the "Artemovskie Meadows: Sunrises and Sunsets" cycle demonstrate the value of the territory and make the magnificent views of these beloved meadow landscapes more accessible and recognizable. The exhibition features works by ten Nizhny Novgorod artists: Olga Bormotova, Ivan Vorozheykin, Svetlana Vorozheykina, Olga Kolesova, Leonid Kolosov, Oksana Kostina, Alexey Myasnikov, Natalya Nazarova, Natalya Smirnova, and Tatyana Yakovleva. Project organizers: RENTEST Company (CEO Vyacheslav Zobov) and the ANO "Artemovskie Luga" (director Alexey Groza). The project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the All‑Russian Creative Public Organization "Union of Artists of Russia", and the Nizhny Novgorod State Regional Universal Scientific Library named after V.I. Lenin.
