Exhibition 'A Literary Tea with A. S. Pushkin'
About exhibition
The exhibition includes items from the collections of the Kaluga United Museum-Reserve and the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibition features about 70 works of painting, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts from Russia and Western Europe dating from the late 18th to the first third of the 19th century that are based on the poet's quotations. The exhibition's concept fully reflects its title — the displays present objects illustrating quotations from A. S. Pushkin's works that are connected with tea-drinking traditions in Russian noble families. Thematically, the exhibition is divided into four sections: - tea-drinking in Polotnyany Zavod at the end of the 18th century; - tea-drinking traditions in noble households in the first third of the 19th century; - tea-drinking among young women in the first third of the 19th century; - tea-drinking at an inn in the first third of the 19th century. The great poet, raised in European traditions, had a keen understanding of Russian society, which is reflected in his works. The exhibition offers an opportunity to learn about the tea-drinking tradition beloved by many characters in his writings.
