Exhibition 'Chronicle in Stone: a Geological Sketch of the Western Caucasus and the Fore-Caucasus'
About exhibition
The exhibition is dedicated to the main features of the geological structure and geological history of Krasnodar Krai and, more broadly, the Western Caucasus and the Fore-Caucasus. It not only demonstrates the scientific and practical significance of geology, but also the aesthetics of minerals and rocks, the work of people in geological professions, and it combines historical and geographical aspects that are a calling card of the region. Among the exhibits are both the oldest items from the museum's paleontological and geological collections and recent acquisitions. These include the now well-known skull of the Phanagorian elephant, fragments of the skeletons of a mammoth, a mastodon, a cetothere whale, various ammonites and other marine invertebrates. Various minerals characteristic of the region and added to the museum's holdings in recent years are also widely represented. An important part of the display will be an interactive zone where visitors can learn about different properties of minerals and rocks, examine interesting specimens and carry out simple experiments.
