Exhibition 'Chronicle of Generations'
About exhibition
Yelnya is rightfully regarded as one of the oldest small Russian towns. By tradition, its history is dated from 1150 — the first mention of Yelnya in the charter of Prince Rostislav. However, the town undoubtedly originated much earlier and grew and developed actively. The exhibition, dedicated to the 875th anniversary of Yelnya's first mention in written sources, is devoted to the town's history from its founding to the present day. The materials reflect the history of the town's origins. The display includes photographs showing the town in the 19th–20th centuries and contemporary views, historical materials from the museum's collections that provide information about cultural and architectural monuments, Yelnya's churches, notable fellow townspeople whose lives and destinies are connected with the town, heroic pages in Yelnya's history, and the feats of Yelnya's residents in the Patriotic War of 1812 and during the Great Patriotic War (World War II). You will be able to see clay pottery, peasant clothing and soldiers' equipment, maps of military operations, and more. The event is held by prior appointment by phone: +7 (48146) 4-10-68 for groups of 5 or more.
