Exhibition "The Cultural Heritage of Novgorod Monasteries"
About exhibition
The exhibition is located in the northern wing of the Desyatinnaya Monastery — an architectural monument of the 14th–19th centuries in Veliky Novgorod. For the first time, the histories of 25 Novgorod monasteries with preserved and reconstructed buildings have been brought together in a single space. Historical materials are presented on display panels — more than 200 photographs and over 60 documents in copy and electronic form. The artistic section of the exhibition includes 39 works of painting and graphic art by authors whose creative legacy is a pride of Veliky Novgorod — Dmitry Sergeyevich Kondratyev, Ilya Iosifovich Kushnir, Grigory Mikhailovich Shtender, Semyon Ivanovich Pustovoytov, Vasily Makarovich Chekhonadsky, Vladimir Viktorovich Zhuravlev and other contemporary artists. The halls display copies of kaleks from 1894 and a brick dated 1352 from the ruins of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin on Volotovo Field, featuring a depiction of a sail-and-oar vessel and three warriors.
