Exhibition "The Gagarin Princes Built to Last"
About exhibition
The Gagarin Princes Center of the Plavsk District Local History Museum is located in a building that is a cultural heritage site: the "Girls' Gymnasium, 1880." On the first floor two fine exhibitions have been created: "Interior of the Gagarin Palace: the drawing room and the prince's study" — by visiting this exhibition you can learn about the history of the Gagarin princely family, the Gagarins' contribution to the development of the village of Sergievskoye, and the everyday life of a 19th-century princely estate; and "The classroom of the diocesan school and the dormitory," an exhibition that recreates the classroom of the Sergievskoye women's four-grade diocesan school and the pupils' dormitory. This institution was opened in 1880. The interiors were recreated based on old photographs from the 19th–20th centuries. The exhibition tells about the education, teachers, and living conditions of the school's pupils. The Gagarin Princes Center also houses a modern exhibition hall that hosts rotating thematic displays of items from the Plavsk District Local History Museum's collection and traveling exhibitions of decorative-applied arts craftsmen and works by artists from the Tula region. Educational guides have been prepared for visitors covering the exhibitions, the exhibition hall, and the city's historical sites, and visitors can also participate in interactive activities, quests, and master classes. You can find the program of events on the Plavsk District Local History Museum's VKontakte page.
