Exhibition "Cossack Antiquities"
About exhibition
A collection of shashkas and 19th-century daggers, orders and medals, and a collection of pectoral crosses allow visitors to become acquainted with the full variety and characteristics of Cossack service, their system of upbringing, and military training. The uniform of the Terek Cossack, borrowed from the mountain peoples, introduces the features of the garment cut adapted for military service and horseback riding. The exhibition includes household items and tools related to the Cossacks' occupations. There is a model showing the appearance of a Cossack stanitsa, its layout features, and the exterior of Cossack houses. The exposition recreates the multifaceted life of the Cossacks and also vividly presents the history of the emergence of Cossacks in the North Caucasus and their active role in the incorporation of this territory into the Russian state.
