Exhibition "Kyakhta Residents — War Participants and Home Front Workers"
About exhibition
The exhibition presents photographs of participants in the Great Patriotic War (World War II), medals and award documents that all attest to the bravery and courage of the Soviet soldier — from an infantry private to an army artillery commander. Visitors can view a display featuring photographs of the Marshals of the Soviet Union. During the Great Patriotic War, 12 people received the rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union; they made a significant contribution to the victory over Nazi Germany. They commanded fronts, developed strategic plans, and led operations that played a key role in defeating the German forces. The collection also includes a model of a freight car produced at the Ulan‑Ude Locomotive and Car Repair Plant (Ulan‑Ude LVRZ). During the war the plant worked around the clock, producing mortars, ammunition, special-purpose trains, armored platforms and other specialized products for the front. Visitors will also see a Maxim machine gun (model 1910–1930).
