Exhibition "From the History of the Customs Service on the Lower Don in the 18th Century"
About exhibition
In the old Cossack stanitsa of Aksayskaya a customs outpost was established and operated in the mid-18th century to monitor the legality of trade in the territory of the Don Host. The permanent exhibition tells the story of the outpost's creation, the specifics of its operation, and the reasons for its closure. Located in an underground space — a unique, the only large utility cellar in the Rostov Region with an area of 350 square meters — the exhibition presents the history of the main local trades and crafts of the Aksayskaya stanitsa. The exhibition displays authentic 18th- and 19th-century items found during the clearing of the structure during its conversion into a museum: glazed tiles (izraztsy), coins, buttons, and grapeshot. Trades and crafts are illustrated by a venter, a blacksmith's forge and tools, and ceramic and glass tableware.
