Exhibition "Historical Museum"
About exhibition
Vladimir Historical Museum is one of the oldest museums in Russia. It was opened in the mid-19th century. The museum introduces visitors to the period of formation and the peak flourishing of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality in the 12th to the early 13th centuries. A model of ancient Vladimir, created based on archaeological and chronicle evidence, helps to imagine what the medieval city looked like. Vladimir became the capital of North-Eastern Rus', a spiritual center and a place where crafts and trade developed. The centerpiece of the exhibition devoted to this period of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality's history is a unique hoard of silver ornaments and church relics, hidden during the city's conquest by Batu Khan's troops in 1238 and discovered by archaeologists in 1993.
