Exhibition 'History of Tomsk: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow'
About exhibition
The exhibition offers an opportunity to learn about the history of the city and its inhabitants from the 17th to the 20th centuries. The exhibition halls 'Tomsk XVII–XVIII centuries', 'Tomsk Parlor', and 'Russian Izba' tell the story of the founding of the Tomsk fortress in 1604, the everyday life and occupations of the city's first residents, and life at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries, when Tomsk was a flourishing cultural, educational, and commercial center of Siberia. The hall 'The Romance of Tomsk Communal Apartments' presents life in communal flats and the special 'communal atmosphere' that left a lasting impression on many Soviet people. The exhibition hall 'Firefighting' displays reproductions and original items from the 19th–20th centuries that describe the work of the Tomsk Volunteer Fire Society, the signalling system for alerting districts to fires, and the everyday life of firefighters. The final highlight for visitors is an ascent to Tomsk's only observation deck, offering a view of the historic part of the city from above. Admission to the exhibition is free for participants in the special military operation (SMO) and their family members.
