Exhibition "History of the Narym Region"
About exhibition
The first three halls vividly introduce the material and spiritual culture of the population of northern Tomsk Oblast in the pre-Soviet period: the Selkups, Khanty, Evenks, and the Russian old-settler population. These are items of archaeology, ethnography, and numismatics: ceramic ware, examples of weaponry, household items, early printed books, icons, coins, and more. A unique exhibit in this section is a Selkup ritual storage chest with anthropomorphic depictions of spirits. The subsequent halls of the history department display items from the Soviet period illustrating the development of agriculture, industry, education, and culture. A separate section presents the socio-political history, the dramatic chapter of which is the political exile to the Narym region. A prominent part of the exhibition is devoted to materials about the Great Patriotic War: original documents, awards and photographs of those who fought at the front and worked on the home front, as well as samples of products from local enterprises, etc. The exhibition is of interest for school subjects such as "Local History" and "History", as well as for students studying in the fields of History, Local Studies, and Journalism.
