Exhibition 'History of Moscow'

About exhibition

The large-scale exhibition 'History of Moscow' at the Museum of Moscow tells the story of the lives and everyday life of Muscovites across different eras, as well as the city's architecture, culture, and development. The exhibition presents the city's history for the first time from the earliest Dyakovo settlements on the banks of the Moskva River (1st millennium BCE) up to the beginning of the Great Patriotic War (World War II). The display includes 2,200 artifacts and works of art. For the first time on this scale, treasures from the Museum of Moscow's collection are being shown: archaeological finds, paintings, graphic works, photographs, rare books, everyday objects and decorative and applied arts, and architectural elements. To create the texts, infographics, maps, and models, the Museum of Moscow engaged leading contemporary archaeologists, historians, art historians, Moscow specialists, and cultural scholars, as well as designers, sculptors, animators, cartographers, and scriptwriters.
