Exhibition "History and Nature of the Saratov Region"
About exhibition
In thirty exhibition halls the museum presents the rich history and the full diversity of the Saratov Region's nature. In the natural history department there are numerous paleontological finds, including the skeleton of an ichthyosaur, and dioramas depicting the landscapes and inhabitants of the region's natural zones. The historical department opens with archaeology halls showcasing finds from sites of the earliest history. Finds from the Uvek settlement tell about the culture of the medieval towns of the Golden Horde. Festive national costumes of the population of the Saratov Region are on display, as well as items attesting to the development of industry, agriculture, science and culture. The museum houses unique memorial collections of Pyotr Stolypin, Yuri Gagarin, the geneticist Nikolai Vavilov, composer Alfred Schnittke, actors Oleg Tabakov, Oleg Yankovsky and Evgeny Mironov, as well as exhibits related to the history of the Volga Germans.
