Exhibition 'History and Culture of the Peoples of the Astrakhan Region'
About exhibition
Astrakhan Region has traditionally been multinational. Within its territory, representatives of nomadic and sedentary cultures originally coexisted peacefully. The exhibition introduces visitors to the many nationalities living in the region (Kalmyks, Kazakhs, Armenians, Tatars, Karagash, Nogais, etc.), as well as traditional household items and dwelling interiors. Particular attention is paid to unique family photographs from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries that reflect the characteristics of these peoples and their family life. Selected from the museum collection are unique examples of national costumes dating from the second half of the 19th to the early 20th century. Many of them reflect a synthesis of cultures and national borrowings, which can be regarded as one of the most important ethnographic features of the Astrakhan region.
