Exhibition 'History and Culture of the Kabardians and Balkars from the 15th to the 19th centuries'
About exhibition
The historical part of the exposition is presented with documents, maps, books, portraits and photographs of prominent public and state figures, and authentic examples of weaponry. In the center of the first hall are horsemen in traditional Kabardian costumes and arms, as well as a complete suit of armor. The ethnographic section is shown through examples of decorative and applied arts and household items. These include elements of men's and women's national costumes, the gold embroidery for which Adyghe craftswomen were famed, silver belts, breastplates, scabbards and gazyri – blackened and richly decorated with national ornamentation and filigree. A comprehensive display of blacksmithing items and agricultural implements is presented. The interior of a Kabardian kunatskaya has been recreated. The center of the second hall is occupied by a model of a medieval Balkar tower, and behind it – a reconstructed interior of a sakli. Here you can see household utensils, traditional Balkar felt carpets (kiyiz), clothing, jewelry, breastplates, photographs of Balkar auls, and portraits of aksakals.
