The museum's exhibition comprises two independent sections: "Editorial Office and Printing House of the newspaper Terek" and "History of Vladikavkaz from the 18th to the mid-20th century." The "Editorial Office and Printing House of the newspaper Terek" section, in addition to an authentic setting of those years, includes printing presses, type cases, samples of electroprint products by S. I. Kazarov, as well as personal belongings of S. M. Kirov, who worked at the Terek newspaper from 1909 to 1918. The second-floor exhibition reflects the main stages of the city's development from the founding of the Vladikavkaz fortress to the modern capital of the republic. An impression of the Vladikavkaz fortress is provided by military paraphernalia, a collection of fortress weapons, lithographic sheets by T. Gorshelt and fragments of the interior of the "House for Travelling Gentlemen." The unique atmosphere of Vladikavkaz in the second half of the 19th — early 20th century is recreated by fragments of urban life and thematic displays dedicated to the head of the Terek region M. T. Loris-Melikov and the city mayor G. V. Baev. Unique items in the museum's collection include an inlaid piano that belonged to the Shteingel family of Vladikavkaz entrepreneurs; a collection of musical instruments of the flautist N. V. Ostashev; materials illustrating the beginning of the creative activity of director E. B. Vakhtangov; and books from the collection of Vladikavkaz's first public library, founded by V. G. Shreders. The harsh trials of the 20th century in Vladikavkaz's history are reflected in sections devoted to revolutionary events, the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War.
