Exhibition “The Art of Seeing a Fairy Tale: Lessons of Viktor Chizhikov”
About exhibition
An exhibition at the I. S. Ostroukhov House in Trubniki, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of People’s Artist of Russia Viktor Alexandrovich Chizhikov, invites visitors on a journey through the pages of beloved children’s books. The display features the master’s legendary illustrations, as well as the artist’s personal belongings, documents, and manuscripts donated to the museum by his widow, Zinaida Sergeevna. The exhibition presents illustration cycles for landmark works of children’s literature: “Alya, Klyaksich and the Letter A” by Irina Tokmakova; “In the Land of Unlearned Lessons” by Lia Geraskina; “The Tale of Lost Time” by Yevgeny Shvarts; “The Wizard of the Emerald City” by Alexander Volkov; “Doctor Aibolit” by Korney Chukovsky; and “Cipollino” by Gianni Rodari. A special place in the exhibition is occupied by Viktor Chizhikov’s tales “Petya and Potap” and “Petya Saves Potap,” created as continuations of the Russian folk tale “The Peasant and the Bear” (also known as “Tops and Roots”). Adult visitors will warmly recall their childhoods, while young guests will discover the vivid world of Chizhikov’s illustrations: the exhibition features games based on his works for the legendary magazines Murzilka and Vesyolye Kartinki (Funny Pictures).
