About exhibition
The exhibition presents unique archaeological finds from Gnezdovo and Smolensk: an amphora-korchaga with the oldest Old Russian inscription 'гороухща' (mid-10th century), items of international trade brought along the 'from the Varangians to the Greeks' route, medieval Rus' and European weaponry—swords, axes and arrows—golden pagan amulets, three-dimensional models of ancient Smolensk churches, frescoes and plinth bricks (plinfa), Smolensk birch-bark letters (12th–13th centuries), coin hoards, household items, jewelry, and tools for crafts and agriculture.
