Exhibition 'Guardhouse of the Astrakhan Garrison. 19th century'

About exhibition

The Guardhouse of the Astrakhan Kremlin - a garrison building from 1808 in the Neoclassical style - is one of the unique Kremlin structures in Russia that has survived in historically preserved forms. The building served as the fortress's main guardhouse and was used as a temporary place of detention for arrested military personnel. A platform was historically located on the eastern façade of the guardhouse. It was marked on maps of the Astrakhan Kremlin until the mid-19th century. The platform was used according to military regulations for the changing of the guard and to restrict access to the guardhouse. Visitors can learn about the daily life of 19th-century soldiers and their weapons, visit the officers' lounge, the garrison commander's office, as well as the guardroom and the solitary confinement cell. Also on display are the uniforms of soldiers and officers and prisoners' clothing. Information: +7 (8512) 30-62-28, +7 (8512) 39-48-33.
