Exhibition "Frescoes of Theophanes the Greek"
About exhibition
The permanent exhibition in the Church of the Transfiguration on the Market Side, better known as the Church of the Transfiguration on Ilina Street, tells the story of a world-famous 14th-century monument of architecture and monumental painting inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Visitors will see the unique frescoes by the outstanding Byzantine painter Theophanes the Greek, who painted the church in 1378. These frescoes are the only indisputable works that have survived from his rich legacy. From the information panels, historical notes, images and photographs, museum visitors will learn about the church's rich history, its architectural features, and how it was restored after the damage sustained during World War II.
