Exhibition 'Photo[graphic] Journey'
About exhibition
The State Tretyakov Gallery presents a journey-exhibition that brings together more than 70 photographs and graphic works telling the story of popular tourist sites from over a century ago. The dialogue between the two art forms reflects not only the actual impressions but also their interpretations. In addition to items from the Gallery's collection, visitors will see selected works by participants of the HUAWEI XMAGE mobile photography contest, a project designed to unite contemporary lovers of photographic travel. The exhibition includes graphic works by Russian artists Boris Grigoriev, Alexei Kravchenko, Alexander Kuprin, Mikhail Larionov, Lazar Lissitzky, Robert Falk, Nikolai Ulyanov and others. Travelers preserved impressions of the European Grand Tour, journeys through the Middle East, and travels to Asia and South America. This new passion gave rise to an entire industry — travel photography and a network of studios selling reproductions. The photographs on display entered the Tretyakov Gallery's collection in 2022 as a gift from Italian journalist Roberto Scarfone — more than 300 images from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, created at the turn of the century. The exhibition will be held at 10 Krymsky Val, Hall 10.
